Palin’ in comparison

I was in the city yesterday having lunch with my publisher and agent, and discovered the Republican (the ex-husband) was on the train home, and he gave me a ride back to the house.

Our times together are not exactly…comfortable, but yesterday I couldn’t help myself, I had to ask about Sarah Palin, and here’s what he told me: 47% of Americans identify themselves as being on the Christian Right, and 70% of Americans have never left the country. In other words, if he is correct about those figures, that is why they picked Sarah Palin, someone with whom the American heartland will identify.

There is nothing about her with which I identify. I find her abhorrent in every way.

I am disliking her more by the second, particularly after her speech last night.

And I am deeply worried.

Last night I was thoroughly disgusted with her rhetoric. Turns out her speech wasn’t all true last night. It was fact checked and quite a few statements were false. I think she is an embarrassment to all women and makes me wonder if she was chosen to help McCain or picked to ruin the chance that a woman is ever on the ticket again. It is sadly true. I work for an airline where one of our perks is free travel and I am constantly amazed by the number of people who have worked for the company for many years and have never held a passport or had the desire to see the rest of the world. I’m worried too.

    Jane,
I LOVE your books and have read almost all of them! It’s so funny - I wrote a blog hours ago called “‘Palin’ in Comparison” as well. Great writer’s minds think alike - I am honored to have thought of hte same title as you.
    Again, love your novels.

I’ve heard that 47% statistic before and I’m very suspicious of it. Still, I’m worried. But things are going to look very different in the coming weeks and months, when people are more focused on the candidates than on this insane giddy rapture that has the Right in its grips.

She scares me too. There’s something I just can’t quite put my finger on. I take it the Republican will be voting on that ticket…

Off to look at this fact checking site.

I was watching the Emmy Awards last night…it was on most of the major networks…around prime time…untill about 11. It looked like Saundra Bullock was hosting it with an updated mullet hairDo. (Joan Rivers had a heart attack commentating on it) ….she gave out a bunch of life time acheivement awards and popped a few jokes about pit bulls and soccer moms…etc… I couldn’t stay up long enough to see who won Best Drama or Best Comedy….

Ok..now I feel remorse for posting this..but I feel so compelled…I am not even going to look at your blog again for a week as punishment!!

one more thing (and then I am punished!)… I support a working mom 100% but I am bothered by this speech…about passing around their 4 month child…like a prop..the child was trying to sleep…can’t one person hold him? Sweet child…but I really hope they are not going to “use” this childs downs syndrome as some sort of a “look at me…I am holding a child with challenges..aren’t I wonderful!!” thing… You know what I mean?… Ok…I am done!!
