Planet Fashion calling
Last night we were lying in bed, waiting for John McCain to give his speech and I couldn’t even look at a-Palin’ and her Marie-Osmond-circa-1984-hairstyle. I can’t even say her name anymore. I think I’m just going to call her Grrrrrr.
This was after a wonderful evening. I gave Beloved a beautiful watercolor by Sarah Laurence, of his favourite beach in Nantucket.
That’s my starter gift. I’m also taking him out tomorrow to buy him something boy-like.
Then Dinner with the Hoteliers, who made me weep with laughter all night. (This was after Beloved had already made me cry with laughter earlier. He walked in and said he’d just come from the new house.
‘How was it?’ I asked.
He looked at me cooly, then bellowed dramatically, ‘Vile.’ I was laughing so hard I almost fell off the chair - readers of my earlier blogs on the new house may remember that story…)
So Beloved had sent out a questionnaire earlier in the day, asking us to think about where we stood on the important issues. It was rhetorical. I skimmed it and moved on to the next email. Mr Hotelier however, not only read it all, but he filled it all in and send it back to Beloved, who whipped out his Blackberry last night over dinner, and read us his answers.
I have to share some of them with you.
Birth Control – 2 boys under 5 is the best method.
Sex Eduction – spelling might be more valuable however, one should always be on the look out for good quality night classes.
Domestic Security – always lock your bedroom door before 8am. You never know when the mood may strike.
Vouchers- you vouch for me and I will do the same.
No Child Left Behind – Better trained bus drivers???
Energy - bran
Other news: Over the past couple of days I’ve been trying to close my existing Facebook page and move everyone to a different page which allows me to contact everyone and update them on what’s going on in my life. I thought if I removed all personal details, it would help push people over to the other one, so I have been busy deleting everything.
So thank you to all who have written expressing their concern and sending their best wishes over the end of my relationship. I am a technological idiot. Clearly.
I have now changed it back.
Tonight I’m off to the launch of the new Wall Street Journal style magazine in the city, and I am having palpitations. I am not a big follower of fashion. I know every new handbag to hit the stores, but clothes? No idea. Don’t know what’s in or out until I see pictures of, say, an Olsen girl in gladiator sandals that practically reach her eyebrows. Aha, I think to myself. Gladiator sandals must be back in vogue (didn’t like them last time round either).
People from Planet Fashion, however, know their fashion. They can look you up and down and pinpoint every item you’re wearing. Unless of course you’re super clever and buy it all from Gap and Nine West, in which case they’d have no idea. Last time I went to a swanky New York party I thought I was being clever by wearing a twenty dollar dress I picked up in the sale at Top Shop in London. I was surrounded by gorgeous women in Missoni and Prada, and I slunk away feeling like the relative from the cheap seats.
The party is being hosted by NBF and Diane Von Furstenberg. I’m wondering if wearing something DVF might be wonderfully cool and flattering, or stupidly cheesy. Also, the only DVF dress currently in my wardrobe is a frilled organza extravaganza that would be great for a ball, but may be a bit over the top for tonight.
I may have to run up to Mitchells, but that means spending a lot of money, and walking past their amazing jewelry section. Right now, I’m still dangerously focused on Supershopper’s necklace, and really ought to avoid all jewelry departments. I was looking at the necklace online last night.
‘That’s gorgeous,’ Beloved leant over in bed.
Which was not what I needed to hear. That sounds to me like, yes! You must have it! How could you possibly live without such a piece of art?
I am about to attempt to go shopping in my own closet. I’m hoping there will be something perfect lurking in the back.

Love the watercolor! Very good choice.
A DVF dress would be over the top as you said. If I were you, I’d pick a dress made by a new designer… You know, someone who’s new in the industry :d Don’t you have a stylist like all the big celebrities??? :p Enjoy yourself at the party tonight!
