Down to Earth with Jane Green

Merry, merry

I am still feeling festive, despite the snow not turning up the other day, and having bucketfuls of rain instead, only now, instead of focusing on Christmas, I’m looking to December 26th, when Beloved and I fly off to the Bahamas.

I still can’t quite believe it, for despite the odd break in Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard and London (usually for work), we haven’t ever had a proper, long, kidless vacation. Admittedly, it’s not quite the romantic getaway it sounds - we are going with my parents, my brother, sister-in-law and 18-month-old niece - but I cannot believe that in just a few short days I will be lounging about on a beach, not having to think about anything other than which book to read next.

And the other thing I’m desperately looking forward to, is the island we’re going to is pretty much the boondocks of the Bahamas. Nobody goes to this island. Except, well, my parents, and a few others. But it’s not a place you’re going to bump into anyone you know, and the only thing you have to worry about when packing is how many shorts and flip flops should you actually pack.

I don’t want to bump into anyone when I’m on vacation. In fact, I’d rather not see any people at all. My idea of heaven is absolute peace and quiet, tiny resorts in the middle of nowhere. I suspect that’s why the cruise was so hellish - it was seven days of sensory overload. The only place I’ve ever been that was almost as bad, was Barbados. Gorgeous to star-spot, but my overwhelming memory was being packed on the beach like sardines, listening to busy, chattery, loud conversations all day.

Sadly the various parties of the last few days have ensured I am far from swimsuit-ready this year. In fact, I may not even be summer-clothes ready, although happily I have mountains of large voluminous kaftany things which hide a multitude of Christmas party sins.

I have no idea if I’ll be able to blog out there, so just in case you don’t hear from me until the new year, have a wonderful holiday, Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah, Festive Festivus etc etc, and may we all have a new year filled with peace, joy and all good things.

enjoy yourself, and I wish you a happy new year, filled with health, joy and peace of mind.

Have a fun and restful trip Jane! I hope the place is deserted and peaceful. Have you considered having a few drinks before getting into your bathing suit? You will think you look great. =)

Hi Beth, had fab Christmas! Hope you did too! Was spoiled rotten by my fiance and his parents and wasn’t allowed to lift a finger! Only sick once yesterday, although have decided that turkey is not my friend anymore. Lol. Very tired now and have to do it all again tomoro after work as Js bro and wife and terrible boys (twin 6 and a 4 yr old) are coming up to his parents tomoro. So we’re off to another family dinner and to see a pantomime on sunday. Soooo don’t need that! If I feel crappy I may snap!!! Haha. Hope you all are well. xx
