Quick update on the fig tree a nice letter from the previous owner of the house who is devastated she moved the fig tree. She had assumed we would rip up everything on the property, so decided to dig up this great big mature fig tree, covered in fruit, in August, at great expense, and move it to her new house.

Now, I'm not an expert, but even I know you don't transplant in the height of summer, and never when a tree is fruiting. Had she asked me, I would have said wait until early Spring, before bloom or bud, and possibly prune it to help the root structure. But what do I know. On second thought, I would have said don't transplant it, leave it, and if you want another fig tree, hell, I'll buy one for you.

Meanwhile she's offered me a shoot when it recovers. Problem is I'm really not sure it's going to recover. In fact, were I a betting woman, I would put money on it. Oh well. Time to visit the orchards come next spring to start again, I think.
