I’m busy getting ready for the big cookbook photoshoot in a couple of weeks. We’re planning sumptuous food (and super easy, as anyone who has cooked my recipes will know), and even more sumptuous photography. I have realised that when I buy a cookbook, it’s not just (more…)
Tomorrow we will have been in this new house a month, and already we have both fallen deeply in love. Part of this unexpected and oh-so-welcome passion for (more…)
I am slightly confused when it comes to food. I either love raw, vegan food, or meat. I don’t understand pizza or pasta, probably because I didn’t grow up with them in England, and would be perfectly happy if I never ate rice again. I could, however, eat enough sugar to feed three thousand armies, and for that reason, I try very hard to avoid it. I’m gravitating more and more to a more paleo way of life, which I am convinced helped me recover from chronic Lyme disease.
I’m also three weeks into a new house with a kitchen that wasn’t designed for (more…)
We fell in love with the location, the water views, the potential of restoring an old house to a charm and glory it may not have ever seen before. We fell in love, and now we’re here, and in my romanticizing, I hadn’t thought about practical matters like storage, or furniture arrangements, or what to do with all your stuff when you are moving to a house just over half the size. Of course we have had construction creep. We started by pulling off one row of cabinets in the kitchen, and tiling the wall with subway tile. I had a vision of (more…)
The most exciting thing about moving (other than having a view you only just realised you have spent your entire life dreaming about), is…decorating! Most of my readers know I’m a frustrated interior designer/cook/domestic goddess, and there’s nothing, absolutely nothing I love more than (more…)
It is freezing. Granted, it could be worse – we do not have six feet of snow outside our front door, but this cold has appeared so quickly and unexpectedly, I don’t feel in the slightest bit prepared. My warm knitted hats are all hiding in a basket somewhere, God only knows where, and I am seriously considering stringing my new gloves through the sleeves of my coat, a la toddler-hood, because I know they’ll be lost in about three days.
This weather makes me crave comfort food. Stews, casseroles, and soups. If you have pre-ordered Saving Grace online, you will hopefully already have received (more…)
Look what just arrived!!! That’s this winter and next Summer covered, and I’m sitting in my office already plotting the next for winter 2015. Aren’t these covers so beautiful? I am completely in love!

At Fairmount Park in Philadephia for Head of the Schuylkill, feeling enormously grateful to live in a country as beautiful as this. I am now, officially, a rowing mom. This means I am less pitbull, more retriever; instead of lipstick, it’s Bean boots all the way…
Art class. But oh, how I wish the poses had been longer than 15 minutes so I could have actually finished this. Still, nothing feels more like coming home than sitting in a big circle around a model, losing myself in the shapes, shadows and lines.
